Global Smartfields Summit commenced today at Le Royal Meridien, Abu Dhabi.
Online PR News – 17-October-2012 – Muscat, Oman – 17 October 2012: Global Smartfields Summit which commenced today at Le Royal Meridien, Abu Dhabi saw E&P professionals, smart fields leaders and upstream data management experts from world over attending the event to get updated on the latest practices in smart fields.
The event over a period of two days is focusing on topics like production optimization, organizational change management, upstream data management and role of technology integrators and software service providers through presentations by experts from Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO), Kuwait Oil Company, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Royal Dutch Shell, Talengi, The Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), Halliburton and Schlumberger among others.
Day one started off with Mohamed Hafez, Chief Control Engineering Department, ADCO giving the keynote presentation on 'Tools and infrastructure for smart fields'. He focussed on the various approaches and tools needed to set up and ensure smooth functioning of smart fields. Hafez stated that, ”The Smart Field introduces new integrated operation practice for production operations that allows real time performance monitoring and collaborated right time decision making to optimize production and maximize recovery”. He believes, “The major challenge is that the essential Smart Field tools and infrastructure are not in place in existing fields and need considerable investment to build.” Overcoming such challenges and implementing smart fields will definitely help in maximizing production and efficiency.
After the keynote presentation, Dr. Ali Ahmed Jama, production solutions manager at Schlumberger, presented a case study on digital oilfield solutions - from instrumentations to intelligent surveillance and beyond. Ihab Abu Bakr Shehata, RTOC project manager from ADCO, and Harold Grayson, global business and technical solutions manager at Halliburton, discussed managing drilling operations remotely. The presentations shed light on the various ways to integrate and implement operations to efficiently execute real time drilling operations.
The highlight of day one was a joint workshop by Saif Bamadhaf, head of IT at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and Ayman Al-Issa, digital oilfield cyber security adviser at ADMA-OPCO on securing digital oilfields from cyber attacks.
Day two will feature sessions on upstream data management practices by Richard Mohan, Upstream Data & Information Architect - ADCO, Sayed A Hashmi, Senior Reservoir Engineer - Chevron, Kishan Kumar, Information Systems Specialist – BAPCO, Dr. Hatem Nasr, Senior Advisor Research and Technology - KOC and Tauseef Kureshi, Global E&P IT Program Manager -BG Group among others.
The two-day summit focuses on topics such as production optimization, organizational change management, upstream data management and role of technology integrators.
