Eisenhower Dog Park Grand Opening Celebration Saturday October 13, 2012

All fun loving, well-behaved dogs are invited to bring their owners for a day of socializing, running and playing at the new Eisenhower Dog Park on Saturday, October 13, 2012!

Online PR News – 06-October-2012 – EAST MEADOW, NY – EAST MEADOW, NY, Oct. 5, 2012—Please join the Long Island Dog Owners Group (LI-DOG), Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and Parks Commissioner Carnell Foskey, Stan Lang, the chairman of Pet Supplies Plus Long Island, and dozens of dog owners and their dogs as we celebrate the Grand Opening of the Eisenhower Dog Park on Sat., Oct. 13th. The Eisenhower dog park, located at the corner of Stewart Ave. and Salisbury Park Drive (on the north side of the park), is the result of a campaign begun in 2008, when a petition with over 1,200 names was submitted by LI-DOG to Nassau County elected officials and the Nassau County Parks Dept. asking for the development of a dog park in Eisenhower Park. Pet Supplies Plus generously agreed to sponsor the dog park. The Eisenhower Dog Park is the third dog park opened this year in Nassau County as a result of LI-DOG campaigns.

Approximately an acre in size, the new off-leash area is located on the former site of an under-used baseball field and basketball court. The dog park features an area for small dogs (25 pounds and under) and an area for large dogs with separate entrances. The park also features shade structures, benches, waste bag containers, and water fountains--all-provided by the park’s sponsor, Pet Supplies Plus.

Saturday's events will begin at 11 am, with a welcome and brief remarks. Expected speakers are:
• Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano
• Nassau County Parks Commissioner Carnell Foskey
• Pet Supplies Plus Long Island Chairman Stan Lang
• LI-DOG Board Member and Nassau Co-Chair Chris Laubis

"For years, LI-DOG has heard from local dog owners that they would like a dog park in Nassau's premier park. Today, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, Parks Commissioner Carnell Foskey and Legis. Norma Gonsalves have responded to their constituents by opening this beautiful dog park. We are also very grateful for the significant contribution that Pet Supplies Plus has made towards making this dog park possible. By providing all the amenities, Pet Supplies Plus will make the Eisenhower Dog Park a place where dog owners will visit time and again," said Laubis.

The "leash-cutting" ceremony will be immediately followed by "A Day at The Park" with vendors, rescue groups, prizes and giveaways!

To mark the opening, Pet Supplies Plus is conducting a Raffle with prizes including $25 Gift Cards, Gift Baskets and a Grand Prize of a "Free Year of Food" from Vet's Choice, a holistic pet food company. All proceeds from the raffle go to the rescue groups in attendance. Scooby, the dog, will also be there with doggie bags and gifts.

In addition, Rick Caran & Team Jilli-Dog, as seen on Animal Planet, will be on hand to show off the small dog Team’s poker playing and basketball skills!

The event also will feature wonderful dogs up for adoption from three local rescue groups-- Bobby & The Strays, North Shore Animal League, and Yorkie911 Rescue. In addition, representatives from Vet's Choice, Weruva, Blue Buffalo, Natural Choice and Merrick Dog Food will be on hand providing free samples of their products.

Please join us for a great day!

Please note: If there is heavy rain, the event will be postponed to Sunday, Oct. 14th at 11 a.m. Check our website for further updates.
