Online PR News – 22-March-2010 – – Lunenburg - A Lunenburg landmark for many years, Lakeview Nurseries celebrates 56 years in business this spring.. During that 56 years, Lakeview has been owned and operated by three generations of the Harvey family.
Priscilla Harvey began the store in 1954 selling perennial divisions from her own extensive gardens. Soon she expanded to sell annuals, flowering shrubs and rose bushes. After graduating from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture her son Russ Jr. joined the family business by opening a landscape division.
Today, Lakeview has expanded to include two full-service garden centers in Central Massachusetts. Selling everything from gardening supplies, lawn care materials, to fountains and water gardens, if it’s garden related you’ll find it there.. In addition, Lakeview offers several services, including landscape design and planting services.
Today you’ll also find Priscilla’s granddaughter, Michelle Harvey actively involved in the management of both Lakeview stores. She holds several state and national nursery industry positions including Chairman of the Board for Master Nursery Garden Centers, a national buying co-operative that Lakeview is an active member of.
Lakeview Nurseries has become an important part of the Lunenburg landscape. “From that little flower stand 56 years ago , we continue to grow with the idea that hard work, a commitment to our community and environment and setting good business ethics will provide a successful formula for Lakeview Nurseries,” says Michelle
Last year Lakeview Nurseries became one of the first garden centers in the country to convert to renewal energy. The Lunenburg store had solar panels installed that have provided for almost 90% of the company’s energy needs. For their efforts Lakeview was awarded by being named as one of the 100 most revolutionary garden centers in the country by Today’s Garden Center.
On Saturday, March 20, 2010, Lakeview Nurseries will open for the spring season and celebrate 56 years in business.
