Katie Weber brings 27 years of regional experience to practice
Online PR News – 28-September-2012 – September 24, 2012/Endwell, New York – Drs. Colleen Crandell and Curt Fenkl of Southern Tier Dermatology & Aesthetics, the premier dermatology and aesthetics provider in upstate New York, welcome Katie Weber to their team.
“We are indeed lucky to be able to add Katie to our staff,” said Dr. Fenkl. “Her expertise in guiding patients to the best treatment path for them, as an individual, fits well with the philosophy of our practice in ensuring personalized treatment and service for our patients.” He noted that Weber is one of the preeminent experts in the field of aesthetics.
The doctor said Weber brings nearly three decades worth of valuable in nursing, plastic surgery and aesthetics to the Southern Tier team.
“With all of the developments in technology and techniques lately, it is a very exciting time for aesthetics,” Weber said. “Laser technology, for example, has changed so rapidly, and our patients benefit from these advances by achieving their best appearance more quickly with ever-decreasing recovery times.”
Dr. Fenkl said Weber will be in charge of all aesthetics treatments, services, and products at Southern Tier, and will be charged with continuing the division’s success and growth.
Weber, who grew up in the Binghamton, N.Y., area, first became certified in aesthetic skin treatment in 1987, graduating from the Christine Valmy School of Aesthetic Skincare and Treatment in New York City. She is also a state-licensed LPN. She has worked as an aesthetician since 1986 in Binghamton and Elmira; since 1999, she had worked in the office of plastic surgeon Mark A. Walker, M.D., F.A.C.S, as a medical aesthetician. She held a similar position for Southern Tier Plastic Surgery Associates in Elmira. She is skilled in administering laser treatments for skin resurfacing, hair reduction and wrinkle reduction and collagen remodeling. She is also an expert at microdermabrasion and epidermal peels, and has assisted physicians with aesthetic injectables for many years.
“My job is primarily about education,” Weber said. “I teach people about the proper care of their skin – which really begins in childhood.”
Before recommending course of treatment, Weber said she first determines what goals a patient is trying to achieve.
“I try to make people comfortable in their skin – that their skin looks, feels and can be as good as it can be. Skin is dynamic – it can be manipulated to more than you ever imagined – and it’s my job to make sure it comes in line with the patient’s goals.”
Every patient begins with basic skin care – discussing how to slow down the impacts of the aging process, for example, and how to stop an attack of acne in its tracks. Then she’ll discuss a patient’s ultimate goals. Are you looking to minimize the appearance of wrinkles? Do you seek to minimize a scar from surgery or cancer? What would you like to achieve?
Then, she will discuss all of the various services that Southern Tier Dermatology and Aesthetics can provide, and which of those services might be a good fit for the patient. She discusses care of the skin and how best to keep it looking youthful.
“The skin is a person’s largest organ, and we need to take care of it. But we have to be given the proper tools to do that,” she said. Katie Weber proactively pursues and engages in many continuing medical education seminars and courses to ensure techniques, procedures, and products are evolving with developments in medicine.
