Nonprofit to host a free holiday lunch and dinner on Thanksgiving, Nov. 22

Online PR News – 27-September-2012 – Pontiac, Michigan – PONTIAC, Mich., Sept. 26, 2012 – Grace Centers of Hope, one of southeast Michigan’s oldest and largest homeless shelters, today announced it is has launched its “$2.05 Holiday Meal Campaign.” The annual fundraising drive helps provide nutritious meals to individuals and families who find themselves without food or shelter this holiday season. In addition, the Pontiac-based nonprofit will open its doors on Thanksgiving to provide a free, traditional lunch and dinner to anyone in need.

“Last year, Grace Centers of Hope served nearly 10,000 meals during the month of November,” said Pastor Kent W. Clark, CEO of Grace Centers of Hope. “That is one reason why our $2.05 campaign is so important because it allows us to serve warm, nutritious meals throughout the holiday season when more individuals and families arrive at our shelter to escape the cold. A gift of just $25 can help us feed up to 12 people.”

On Thanksgiving Day, lunch will be served at noon and dinner will be served at 5 p.m. at Grace Centers of Hope located at 35 E. Huron St. in Pontiac. Visitors do not need to be enrolled in the Grace Center of Hope’s Emergency Shelter, One Year Life Skills or After-Care programs to receive a free meal.

“A traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and all the fixings will be served family-style for lunch and dinner on Thanksgiving Day,” said Clark. “We are very grateful for our many caring and devoted volunteers who assist us and continuously make a difference at Grace Centers of Hope.”

More than 800 people are slated to volunteer at Grace Centers of Hope in November and December, and that number is expected to rise in the coming weeks to approximately 1200 volunteers.
