A World Record in Hair Transplant Surgery

The first FUE surgery to take place in Scotland and it could be a world record with 2, 684 grafts implanted in one day

Online PR News – 25-September-2012 – 25th September – The recently opened Glasgow Clinic in Scotland has performed the first ever FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair transplant surgery to take place in the country and announced it could be a world record in the number of grafts (2,684) implanted in one day by manual FUE.

The pioneering FUE procedure is only available at the Glasgow Clinic in Scotland and very few other surgeries in the UK with the majority of patients having to travel abroad to receive treatment.
The procedure can normally take over twelve hours per day to do 2000 grafts and is done under local anaesthetic. It begins with hairs being grafted directly from the scalp using a punch to remove the complete follicular units. They are then harvested under a microscope and by using very thin blades or needles to create new incisions; the hairs are replaced one by one as quickly as possible into the selected re-implantation sites.

A less invasive hair transplant procedure than other available treatments and causes only minimal scarring that is virtually invisible to the naked eye.

Ideal candidates for FUE hair transplants are those suffering from male or female pattern baldness, people suffering from alopecia, trichotillomania and hair loss due to radiotherapy or chemotherapy. It's also a procedure used for beard reconstruction, eyebrows rebuild or burned scalp and scar repair.

The Glasgow Clinic's FUE surgeon Dr Emorane Lupanzula said: " Our qualified and experience team have really set the bench mark high with this surgery in terms of achievement and results across the hair transplant world. It’s been an extremely successful operation and we’re delighted to be the first to have carried this out in Scotland.

“Implanting 2,684 grafts in one day is what we have achieved today, we have never done this before, it’s really quite remarkable and I’m very proud of my team.

“Our aim is to change the perception of hair transplantation and educate those seeking a solution. In Scotland and across the whole of the UK we need to create an awareness of the FUE procedure. It’s a revolutionary technique that is so advanced it has taken hair transplantation to a completely new level.

“We see ourselves as major a new competitor in the UK hair transplant surgery market. Opening a clinic in Glasgow gives UK patients an alternative to travelling abroad for FUE treatment and having to wait on long surgery lists. This is a life-changing treatment for patients and having it carried out close to home is a better option.

Case Study

The Glasgow Clinic conducted the first ever FUE hair transplant in Scotland and achieved 2,684 grafts all in one day.

30-year-old Scott McCrum of Alloway, Ayrshire suffers from male pattern baldness, he said: “I’d like to say thank you to the Glasgow Clinic. My surgery is a new world record, it’s fantastic, what a result and carried out by a world-class surgeon, I couldn’t be happier.

“I was very well taken care of right throughout my surgery and it wasn’t an unpleasant experience. The clinic went out of their way to make me feel comfortable, they even ordered in my favourite pizza for tea but most importantly I’ve now got a full head of hair again.

“As standard I know the transplanted hairs will shed, but fingers crossed by the end of the year I should be seeing some good growth. The fact that this can now be done in Glasgow and Scotland is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone who is perhaps thinking about it”
