Kropp/Pavlik Succeed in Series Sweep; Hyden/Scott Defeat Olympians Gibb/Rosenthal to Win Prize Money

Online PR News – 25-September-2012 – Huntington Beach, Calif. – Huntington Beach, Calif. – The final day of the 2012 Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series was filled with unforgettable moments in the last day of competition for the 2012 professional beach volleyball season. Familiar faces topped the podium once again with Jenny Kropp (Holly Glen) and Whitney Pavlik (Laguna Beach) making history with their series sweep while John Hyden (Sherman Oaks) and Sean Scott (Redondo Beach) clinched their fourth win to add to the record books and $18,000 for each winning team. Throughout the season, both teams were clear standouts and displayed unparalleled athleticism while under pressure.

Though the remaining six women’s teams started out the day strong, in the end, it was Kropp and Pavlik who rose above their competition as they defeated Tyra Turner (Fort Myers Beach, Fla.)/Brooke Niles (Ventura) in their first match of the day in three sets, 21-17, 17-21 and 15-10. The duo continued their dominance in a showdown against Lauren Fendrick (Hermosa Beach) and Rachel Scott (Redondo Beach), wife of Sean Scott in two sets, 21-14 and 21-18.

“IMG and Jose Cuervo put on such an amazing series. It couldn’t have been a better summer and I couldn’t have asked for anything to make it more perfect,” said Pavlik. “To do this with Jenny was so special.”

“This has been a long season but this last win was the best ending that we have hoped for,” said Kropp. “We are so thankful for IMG and Jose Cuervo for putting on this domestic tour for us and we have had so much fun being a part of it.”

In the men’s final match, Rosie’s R8drs came out in full force filling the entire front section to support Jake Gibb (Costa Mesa) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach) with bursts of energy against opponents John Hyden (Sherman Oaks)/Sean Scott (Redondo Beach), but it wasn’t enough to take down the Florida Open, Hermosa Beach Open, Milwaukee Shootout and Manhattan Beach Open victors in their last official competition as partners. The day belonged to Hyden and Scott, as a full stadium and pier witnessed the pair edge out the US Olympians in two sets, 21-15 and 21-12.

“It’s great to go out a winner. We had a great weekend, a great game and we feel really good right now,” said Hyden. “I wish we could keep playing but we are looking forward to this series with IMG and Jose Cuervo to coming back.”

“It was a full draw and the matches were extremely tough this time around,” said Scott. “We feel so privileged every time we step on the court with these two guys and we could feel the heat from Rosie’s R8drs, so we had to bring our best or else get beat. Thank you to Jose Cuervo, IMG and all involved to put on this world-class event. All the right pieces are in place so all we need is for all of the athletes to keep supporting and growing this tour.”

Rosenthal will partner with Phil Dalhausser next year and Gibb has yet to unveil who his new partner will be.

Fans who were unable to make it to the beach will be able to catch the action on Sept. 30 at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on NBC Sports Network.
Produced by IMG Worldwide, Inc., the Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series is sanctioned by USA Volleyball (USAV), the governing body of the sport and will be broadcast nationally on NBC Sports Network.
