Online PR News – 19-September-2012 – Coulsdon, London,UK – The Friends of Marlpit Lane Bowling Green today received a £5,000 grant towards the cost of restoring the green.
Councillor Terry Lenton stated that she was delighted to learn at the Cabinet Meeting on 17 September that the Friends of Marlpit Lane Bowling Green have been awarded a Council Grant of £5,000. This has been achieved thanks to the efforts of volunteers working for the Friends Group and to the support of local residents and bowls players. The Friends now plan to restore the green so that bowlers can start playing there again next Spring.
In November 2011, the council ceased maintenance on the green, which is part of Coulsdon Memorial Ground. The Friends Group was created in June 2012 to take over maintaining the green and improving the facilities including equipment hire. Established before 1940, the bowling green has been a hub for the community for over seventy years and enjoys widespread local support.
