Global Smartfields Summit in Abu Dhabi to address the latest developments of intelligent oilfields

Global Summit on Smart Fields to gather speakers from across the globe at Abu Dhabi on 17-18 October 2012. The event will focus on the latest developments in the smart fields domain.

Global Smartfields Summit to be held in Abu Dhabi on 17-18 October will shed light on the latest developments in smart fields. Mohamed Hafez, Chief-Control Engineering Dept., Engineering Technical Center - ADCO will deliver the keynote presentation on tools and infrastructure needed for setting up smart fields. Hafez is a fellow member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and has 35 years of experience in projects and development in oil & gas , power and desalination industries and chemical industries.

When asked what are the major challenges faced by industries in implementing Smart Fields and how they can be overcome he responded, "The major challenge is that the essential Smart Field tools and infrastructure are not in place in existing fields and need considerable investment to build. These challenges can be overcome by establishing more appealing business cases". Hafez concluded the interview by mentioning "The attendees at the Global Smartfields Summit will recognize the importance of Smart Field in sustaining and improving production as oil fields age".

Another key highlight of the event would be a joint workshop on 'the way forward to protect critical infrastructures from cyber attacks' conducted by Saif Bamadhaf - Head of IT, ADNOC; Ayman AL-Issa - Digital Oil Fields Cyber Security Advisor, ADMA OPCO. The workshop will shed light on protecting critical infrastructures from cyber attacks by considering building automation system with Cyber Security by design, security assurance levels and securing legacy automation systems.

The speaker panel is comprised of industry experts coming in from all across the globe representing companies like ADNOC, SAP, ADCO, KOC, Halliburton, Reliance Energy, Bapco, Talengi, ADMA-OPCO, TNO, BG Group and Sudapet among others.
