Kia Soul Hamsters Challenge Makes Casey Kia of Newport News the Place to Be
09/13/2012

The newest addition to the iconic hamster commercials for Kia Soul appeared on September 6. Kia also recently launched the “In My Mind” music video challenge.

Online PR News – 13-September-2012 – Newport News, VA – On September 6, broadcast during the MTV Video Music Awards, the fourth installment in the legendary Kia Soul hamster commercial series—“Bringing Down the House”—was aired. The debut of this humorous video has been long-awaited. Kia’s hamsters have been cited as a large reason for the auto maker’s rapid growth in America.

This time, the hamsters travel back in time to 1799 and interrupt a ballet/opera showing. The conductor reveals himself to be a hamster in disguise, and newly-popular electronic dance music begins to play. Several more hamsters appear, and the hamsters—along with the 1799 dancers—begin to groove to the song, “In My Mind.”

Fans love these commercials, and they have shown their support by their devotion to the Kia Soul, one of America’s most newly beloved vehicles. (The Soul even made it onto a Kelley Blue Book Top 10 list for 2012). Kia understands how much this commercial series means to Kia lovers, so Kia has taken one step further by launching a new user-generated content contest.

The Kia Soul “In My Mind” Music Video Challenge can be found on YouTube. The challenge encourages users with imaginations to adapt the song featured in the latest ad (“In My Mind”) to visuals that the user has created, interpreting the lyrics and music in their own ways to create a music video. There are several prizes, but the big ticket item is a brand new 2013 Kia Soul.

The video must be around 90 seconds and can be uploaded to Kia’s YouTube page now through September 26. Those who enter can use social media and word-of-mouth to generate votes for their videos, as votes from the viewers will account for 49% of the score. Six finalists will then go to a panel of judges in mid-October. The panel includes celebrities such as Far East Movement, Paul Hunter, and Mickey Finnegan. These celebrities will pick the winner.

Michael Sprague, executive vice president of marketing and communications at Kia Motors America, said, "Music has played a starring role in each of the Soul hamster spots, and the mash-up and remixing trends that inspired 'Bringing Down the House' lends itself to tapping the imaginations of fans of the spot and aspiring music video directors to allow them to express their creativity.”

Casey Kia is excited to see the entries into this contest. Head to Casey Kia today and take an all-new Kia Soul out for a test drive. Stay connected with Casey Kia on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/caseykia and on Twitter at http://twitter.com/casey_kia.
