Kurien, 90, is survived by wife Molly Kurien and daughter Nirmala.â€ť Informed Shivaji Rao Patil freedom Fighter, former Rajya Sabha Member and Minister at Maharashtra State while observing two minute silence at World Peace Development And Research Foundation at its head quarters in Noida.
â€ťDr.Verghese Kurienâ€™s professional life was dedicated to empower Indian farmers through co-operatives which saw the birth of Amul, which became a successful cooperative modelâ€ť quoted Sandeep Marwah President of WPDRF.
The former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri established National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to replicate the Amul model across the country and Kurien was made its chairman who led 'Operation Flood' to make India the biggest milk producing nation in the world, besides making Amul a household name.
