Don Thomas Sporthaus presents all day ski and snowboard demo and competition to take place on a bigger and better snow covered ramp.
Online PR News – 12-September-2012 – Birmingham/MI – In anticipation of the upcoming winter sports season, the fourth annual Rail Jam will return to downtown Birmingham, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22. Held in the median between Woodward Avenue and Old Woodward, spectators are invited to come out and watch skiers and snowboarders of all ages and skill levels compete.
Competitor categories will include: male skiers, 15 and older; male skiers, 14 and under; female skiers; male snowboarders, 15 and older; male snowboarders, 14 and younger; and female snowboarders. Thousands of dollars in prizes and giveaways will be available for both the competitors and spectators.
All competitors must pre-register, and print a waiver form, online at http://boneheadx.com/birmingham-rail-jam. Additionally, there will be a $5 donation entry fee, which will benefit the High Fives Foundation (www.highfivesfoundation.org), an organization that improves the quality of life for athletes seriously injured in sports-related accidents.
On the day of the event, competitor check-in will be available from 9-10 a.m., with a two-hour practice time after. The approximately 75 amateur competitors will then test their skills, beginning at 12:30 p.m., on the ramp designed by Jon Tollefson of Parx by Jon. The ramp, which will be covered in snow, includes a 10-foot drop and 12- and 15- foot rails.
The Rail Jam also will feature a special appearance and demo at noon by Big Mountain Ripper and ex-Park Rat Rebecca Selig, a Kalamazoo native. A Freeride World Tour competitor, she is considered to be one of the top females skiers in the world, having started when she was just two years old.
