ARISE Foundation Founders travels demonstrate Why Complimenting Others Makes you Feel Good
Edmund and Susan Benson, founders of ARISE Foundation, an organization established in 1986 with a mission to introduce valuable life skills to youth and adults created a series of 125 ARISE Positivity Cards that are used to recognize when someone does something good. They also teach valuable life lessons that children once learned as families sat around the table discussing the day’s events at meal time.
Since 1986, ARISE Foundation has been teaching important life lesson locally and nationally on topics such as anger management and good communication skills, etc. The ARISE founders were looking for a simple, inexpensive way to teach life’s important lessons that would be applicable at work, at home, and would be good for children and adults. Pats on the back or a verbal thank you no longer have a lasting impact.
So in August, 2012, they completed a 4,500 mile driving trip with the purpose of spreading kindness and positivity by handing out samples of the positivity cards they created. They traveled from their home in Jupiter, Florida to over 13 states in the South and Northeast. They personally handed out the ARISE positivity cards in Times square New York, a mountaintop in North Carolina, the race track in Saratoga Springs, a coffee shop in Virginia, a bed and breakfast in Maine and an emergency medical clinic in South Carolina. The responses from people who received these little cards (size of a business card) were extraordinary –it made the recipients and the Bensons feel spectacular.
Now the Bensons are planning a 9,000 mile trip from Florida out West intent on collecting additional ARISE positivity card experiences. They plan to publish a book titled The Upside of Life in 2013. This new road trip will provide lots of opportunities to share knowledge and goodness that comes from making people happy while leaving them with tangible and memorable messages to pay it forward.
