FCC planning aggressively to auction television station airwaves.

According to the Federal Service Commission officials, the chairman of FCC Julius Genachowski will hand out an order with other commissioners on Friday which will discuss and outline the possibility of auctioning airwaves. The order will seek feedback from different cellular companies and public regarding the arrangements of multi-billion dollar auctions.
Earlier this year, Congress authorized the scheme of auctioning television station airwaves as part of the extension of the tax cut legislation as the further details of the arrangements to implement was left with the Federal Communication Commission.
The FCC has decided to take vote before moving ahead with the proposal. The officials of the FCCon explained that not a single country in the world has attempted an auction of this magnitude. Chairman Genachowski is aiming for an aggressive 2014 deadline with the help of the experts and specialized personal in engineering and economics.
"In freeing up spectrum for wireless broadband, incentive auctions will drive faster speeds, greater capacity, and ubiquitous mobile coverage. These are essential ingredients for innovation and leadership in the 21st century economy where smart phones and tablets powered by 4G LTE and Wi-Fi networks are proliferating, and the mobile Internet becomes more important every day. Over the last few years, the U.S. has regained global leadership in mobile innovation – and we must not let up now." Julius said, according to The Hill.
The officials also added that the revenues generated from the auction of airwaves will be utilized to cover the cost of making payments to the broadcasters and also to pay for the tax cuts.
