As a nationwide supplier of falconry services, NBC Bird & Pest Solutions has a natural affinity with the valuable work being done by the Hawk Conservatory Trust in Andover.
Online PR News – 27-August-2012 – Attleborough, Norfolk – We believe the Hawk Conservancy Trust is unique in its efforts to help these magnificent UK raptors to survive, thrive and remain one of the UK's favourite sights. The Kestrel was once the country's most common bird of prey and used to be seen regularly hovering next to motorways, searching for food. You may have noticed that these beautiful birds have become less and less apparent these days.
So, where are our kestrels? Sadly, the species has suffered an alarming 25% reduction in population, prompting the British Trust for Ornithology to categorise the extent of the danger they are in as 'Amber' on their Birds of Conservation Concern (BoCC) listing.
The reason for the kestrels' depletion is unknown. It may be attributed to be the irresponsible use of pesticides (permanent baiting) which can contaminate their food, or could be a consequence of the increase in the numbers of Buzzards, their fiercest predators. It could even be related to a scarcity of suitable nesting sites.
To help the Hawk Conservancy Trust to develop a solution to this dilemma, we have joined forces with them to lend hand in raising the £50,000 they need for their forthcoming 'Caring for Kestrels' research programme, an ambitious four year study into the crisis facing the UK's kestrel population which is supported by naturalist and wildlife TV presenter Chris Packham.
How you can help us support the Hawk Conservancy Trust!
An enthusiastic NBC team will be setting off on the Attleborough to Andover cycle challenge on 4th October 2012 to pedal the 170+ miles ahead and raise funds for the HCT charity. We are all new to cycling but hope to complete this course in 3 days.
The 'Caring for Kestrels' research programme will be launched on the 13th & 14th October 2012 following our Attleborough to Andover cycle journey. With our partners and customers we will also have a team in place to assist the Hawk Conservancy Trust with the installation of 106 nest boxes required for the Kestrel study.
So, next time you visit our website, we hope you'll click through to our Hawk Conservancy Trust page and seriously consider making a modest donation. Please support us to help Hawk Conservancy Trust.
