Toyota Joins Others to Assist Returning Troops and Veterans In Job Search

Hiring Our Heroes has now been joined by Toyota to help returning troops and veterans find employment.

Online PR News – 23-August-2012 – Clinton, New Jersey – As part of an ongoing effort to assist returning troops and veterans during their transition from active military to civilian jobs through Hiring our Heroes, Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. has announced a new partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s National Chamber Foundation and Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer.

“The U.S. is currently facing an unemployment rate for post 9-11 veterans of more than 12%, which has the potential to increase as troops return home from overseas,” said Don Esmond, Senior Advisor, Toyota Motor Sales, Inc. and former Marine. “We believe the Personal Branding Initiative is an important step forward in addressing this challenge because it helps veterans translate their military experience into marketable skills. Toyota is honored to be partnering with Sgt. Dakota Meyer and Hiring Our Heroes and we pledge our full support to the program.”

According to their website, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's National Chamber Foundation launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment, in March of 2011. Working with a network of 1600 state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, their goal is to create a movement across America in hundreds of local communities where veterans and military families return every day.

Sgt. Meyer, the first living Marine to receive the Medal of Honor in three decades, will travel to various Hiring Our Heroes job fairs around the country meeting with veterans to discuss the transition from military service to future employment as well as the importance of personal branding.

“I was a sniper in the U.S. Marine Corps, so I understand firsthand how hard translating a military skill to a civilian skill can be. Toyota understands the gap that exists when veterans apply to jobs and face specific challenges in matching future employers’ job descriptions,” said Sgt. Dakota Meyer. “Our country has been served by the people that make up the best employees – where qualities like loyalty, commitment and hard work are not only required, but honored. Since my return from service, I’ve been very passionate about doing what I can to help veterans. I believe this partnership with Toyota and Hiring Our Heroes will take those efforts to the next level. I’m excited to be involved and look forward to spreading the word to veterans across the country.”

Hiring Our Heroes has provided returning troops and veterans with over 230 job fair opportunities. Those fairs have been hosted in 48 states, Puerto Rico as well as the District of Columbia and have resulted in the hiring over more than 10,400 troops and veterans.
