Online PR News – 19-July-2012 – Santa Clara, CA – The City Beach Girls’ Volleyball Team took to the courts in the final medal match of the day to win the gold in the 18 American Division during the USA Volleyball Junior Girls’ National Championships held on July 2, 2012 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. City Beach 18-1 Black won all 11 matches they played in the tournament, including the final match against Skyline 18 RoShamBo. In the second set, City Beach jumped to a 6-0 lead and they continued to the win in a third and final set, with a score of 25-17.

The gold win was the 25th girl’s medal win for the City Beach Jr. Volleyball Program and a successful culmination of the team’s season, during which the City Beach 18-1 team competed and qualified in both the Northern California Volleyball Association League and the USA Volleyball qualifiers, a feat which only 3% of the volleyball clubs in the country meet. Three of the City Beach players, Kimmy Whitson, Shelby Vance and Melanie Wade also played on the all-stars tournament team, and Melanie Wade was awarded as tournament MVP.

“We are very happy for our girls and proud of this accomplishment,” states Aaron Benning, Head Coach and Director of Junior Sports for City Beach. “They have been the backbone of our club for years and this win adds to their legacy.”

Seniors in the City Beach program will go on next year to play at colleges including the University of the Pacific, University of Washington, University of Oregon State, University of Connecticut, University of Houston, and UC Santa Barbara, among others. This continues 17 successful years of the program’s record of college commitments for its players. Meanwhile, the City Beach Volleyball program is gearing up for the Volleyball camps this summer, which begin in July with a variety of offerings from novice to experienced camps and preparing for the next season.
