Online PR News – 14-July-2012 – Lake Charles, LA – Nissan of Lake Charles is proud to be a part of the Nissan family as Nissan adds 1,000 additional workers locally.
Nissan will begin manufacturing the 2013 Nissan Sentra, at the Japanese car maker’s Canton, Miss. plant. The rise in production will require Nissan to hire 1,000 additional workers, bringing the total number of workers at the plant near 5,000.
“The addition of Sentra production is a testament to our dedicated Canton workforce and the high level of production quality that they deliver each and every day,” said the vice chairman of Nissan Americas, Bill Krueger. “The Canton team has proved it can compete and win on a global scale, and it is due to this that we are adding three vehicles to our production roster in Mississippi.”
Nissan will invest $20 million in addition to hiring the entire new workforce, and the state of Mississippi will also invest $7.5 million to aid in training new workers and infrastructure.
Nissan is the ranked as the number six automaker in the United States, and believes that plants, such as the one in Canton, give them a distinct advantage.
The Canton plant already produces six other Nissan models, including: the Altima, Frontier, Titan, Xterra, Armada, and the NV van.
The 2013 Sentra will be the latest of a fresh-looking Nissan line-up, and production of the compact sedan is set to begin in December at the Canton plant. Although much has yet to be unveiled about the 2013 Nissan Sentra, many consumers are excited about the redesigned exterior and larger body style.
The 2013 Nissan Sentra will likely be powered by a 1.8-liter engine with an Xtronic continuously variable transmission. If this is the engine released with the 2013 Sentra, drivers will experience greater fuel efficiency than what was delivered in previous years.
