Taahirah O’Neal Sweet 16- Benefiting The Trevor Project

Online PR News – 09-July-2012 – Houston/Texas – Houston, TX,- On July 14th Taahirah O’Neal, eldest daughter of retired NBA Champion & TNT Analyst Shaquille O’Neal, will be celebrating her much anticipated Sweet 16 by benefiting The Trevor Project. Taahirah announced mere days before invitations were to be printed, to forsake a traditional “Sweet 16” party by using this day as an opportunity for her and her friends to help others by benefiting The Trevor Project (www.thetrevorproject.org). Ms. O’Neal’s philanthropic efforts will take place at 7:00 pm at The Corinthian Houston, with a host of excitable youth and a VIP reception for parents and sponsors.

The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. But more importantly, this is an organization whose Vision is one that Taahirah supports: “A future where the possibilities, opportunities and dreams are the same for all youth, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.” She didn’t want to have a party or celebration without meaning. “I realize that I’ve taken many things for granted and I feel really good about supporting this cause.” said Taahirah. The benefit for The Trevor Project creates powerful awareness for an audience of young people who will be able to participate in philanthropy and support a cause that affects many of their peers. Along the way, Taahirah has received help, encouragement, vision and motivation from her friends and family…but most of all her parents.

Shaquille, who was recently recognized as Father of the Year (2012) by the National Father’s Day Council says, "Taahirah has always been a sweet and giving person; ever since she was little and I'm very proud of her." Taahirah’s mom, Arnetta Yardbourgh, a life coach & wellness consultant; shares Shaquille’s sentiments and says “She has always had a giving spirit and this is just another example of her willingness to share with others." In lieu of gifts, Taahirah is requesting that party guests donate to the Trevor Project by giving monetary gift cards, such as MasterCard and VISA in any amount. Taahirah has also established a website to provide more information about this great event and cause. Those interested in supporting Taahirah’s fundraising efforts may do so by visiting www.taahirahsweet16.com and making a one-time gift donation.

Taahirah is looking forward to having fun and making this day a memorable birthday for her and her guests. Fun is something that The TREVOR Project hopes Taahirah has while supporting their organization. “The Trevor Project wants to extend the happiest of birthday wishes to Taahirah O’Neal for her support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth in crisis,” said Abbe Land, Executive Director and CEO of The Trevor Project. “Young allies can help save lives simply by letting their friends know they are supportive and accepting. With her generous donation to The Trevor Project, Taahirah is showing young people like her that it’s easy to be a caring friend.”

For Taahirah, this is just the beginning. With a smile that lights up the room and a heart just as big…this is not the last time we’ll be hearing from Ms Taahirah C. O’Neal.
