Wafels & Dinges Teams with Mont Blanc Desserts to Create Belgian Wafels and Ice Cream Treats

Inauguration of 5 New Delectable Belgian Ice Cream Flavors Announced to Beat the Summer Heat

Online PR News – 19-June-2012 – New York, NY – What could be better than ice cream on a waffle cone? How about Belgian ice cream on top of an authentic Wafels & Dinges wafel?

Last week, the Belgian Congress expanded the Belgian Treats Abroad Act with the creation of a special department of Ice Cream within the Department of Wafels. The goal is to bring high quality ice cream with a Belgian touch. The Congress's love for bureaucracy never tasted this good!

In accordance, Wafels & Dinges teamed up with Benoit Gerin at Mont Blanc Desserts to develop an unusual program of premium ice creams with a Belgian flair. The collaborative brainstorm between Thomas DeGeest ("The Waffle Guy") and his French friend Gerin (ex-Jean Georges), resulted in several flavors with a distinctive Belgian twist that will be sold exclusively by Wafels & Dinges.

“Benoit uses nothing but the highest quality ingredients – he’s an ice-cream genius. We had lots of fun experimenting with new ideas during the spring. With that, we now know we will serve one of the best ice cream offerings in New York City this summer," said Thomas DeGeest, who founded his famous waffle-truck fleet after years of searching for, but never finding, authentic Belgian wafels in America.

"It’ll be a great marriage between these Belgian-inspired ice creams and especially our Liège waffles. Of course, for very hot summer days and for ice cream purists we’ll also offer our new creations in a traditional wafel cone."

The combination of Hoegaarden, a popular Belgian white beer, and honey makes this an absolute summer treat. Its refreshing taste has touches of citrus and lemon and will make the summer of 2012 the one where you discovered and fell in love with authentic wafels AND real Belgian beer!

Lindemans Framboise, a Belgian raspberry beer, gives this new ice cream flavor a deliciously fruity taste.

Speculoos is a Wafels & Dinges staple. The iconic gingerbread cookie and vanilla spread now is available as an ice cream treat perfect for hot summer days. It is so awesomely addictive that people have tried buying it by the tub!

Just like Belgium's most famous action star, this dark Belgian chocolate ice cream kicks butt! Choc-Claude Van Damme's main ingredient is loads and loads of dark Belgian chocolate -- making it richer, darker, and more muscular than any other chocolate ice cream.

“Of course, some of our customers are more adventurous than others,” says the Waffle Guy. “We’ll still keep our staple Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream from Benoit available at all times. But for the culinary-curious types, we can guarantee we’ll be one of their most memorable summer destinations.”

New York City was the birthplace of the “Belgian” waffle at the 1964 World’s Fair, where the treats -- known as “Brussels” waffles in their home country -- were an instant hit. Wafels & Dinges is the only company in the U.S. to use both authentic Belgian waffle mix/recipes and old-school cast iron wafel makers.
