What do present day soldiers suffering from PTSD do when they have free time? Volunteer to visit the nearby VA Home and administer the 15MinuteStressOut!
Online PR News – 02-March-2010 – – Wounded Warriors who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder are being healed within the US Armys first holistic healing center located in Sunny El Paso Texas. They are treated by a host of professional alternative healers, psychologists and social workers until they are mentally able to return to duty. The facility has an excellent track record over the past 2 years.
While patients at the center, Professor emeritus Jerry Vest, LISW, ACSW, LMT, teaches the soldiers and their families how to de-escalate situations through a simple techniquee including acupressure and deep breathing.
Wounded Warriors have volunteered to deliver their prefered method of treatment(15MinuteStressOut) to Veteran residing at the Ambrosio Guillen Veterans Home in El Paso Texas!
In 1985, he invented the technique while working as a professor of social work at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces NM. There is a website www.15minutestressout.com where you can read about the benevolent work that Jerry continues at 75 years young.
At the request of the Activities Director, Willie Brown; Jerry, a number of volunteers and some of the wounded warriors will provide a 2 - 3 hour session for the residents. It is a moving experience that can bring people to tears of joy in the most extreme cases. Most of the senior vets are in wheel chairs, and can suffer from Alzheimer's and diabetes. These are the same populations that are usually targeted by his organization and after 30,000 stressouts, the results are rote. At the onset of the activity seniors are generally pretty confused and wary but after they meet their partner and begin to breathe deeply with them, a natural human bond is formed and from there it is all smiles and happiness. Just witnessing this positive transformation of our older Veterans as they exhibit trust and true relaxation is a very heartfelt and special event. After 15 minutes of this skillful, nourishing therapy-the affects are physically evident. There is an electricity in the air as the residents physically open up and share stories or simply deliver warm smiles and hugs to their partners.
On March 11, 2010 the event will be held at the Ambrosio Guillen Veterans Home in El Paso Texas from 9am until 11:30am. Previous volunteers and certified practitioners of the 15MinuteStressOut are welcome to attend.
