A Book Signing Party hosted by MOUNTAIN MADE art gallery will be held June 19th, 5-7PM for the book “Team Cul De Sac – Cartoonists Draw The Line at Parkinson’s”.
Online PR News – 13-June-2012 – Asheville, NC – Often people mistakenly think that cartoonists and artists are isolationists – creating their artwork alone at their drawing boards never getting together with others.
But when 2011’s Cartoonist of the Year, Richard Thompson (the mastermind behind the comic strip Cul De Sac) was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, his friend, web designer, Chris Sparks rallied over 120 cartoonists to help him with his fundraising efforts for research on a cure.
This grassroots group of local and international cartoonists aptly named called “Team Cul De Sac” along with Chris’s leadership and editing skills created the book, “Team Cul De Sac – Cartoonists Draw The Line at Parkinson’s”.
Mountain Made, a downtown art gallery located inside the Grove Arcade, is proud to sponsor the Asheville book signing party for this unforgettable book on June 19th, 5-7PM. There will be live music and light refreshments will be served.
This event is free and open to the general public. Come and meet with Chris Sparks along with some of the Team Cul de Sac’s contributors such as graphic artist Jamie King (Chris's business partner at http://www.SparkingDesign.com) and cartoonist Michael Cole, creator of the “Dragin” webcomic series.
Profits from all book sales will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
This coffee table edition is filled with the work from some of the best known cartoonists living today such as Bill Watterson, “Calvin and Hobbes”, Mort Walker, “Beetle Bailey”, Garry Trudeau, ”Doonesday”, Lynn Johnston, ”For Better or Worse”, and many others.
The book also contains the art of the many new upcoming stars just coming into their own and is a wonderful celebration of this under appreciated art form.
While each cartoon reflects the unique style of the individual artist, they are based upon the antics of precocious preschooler Alice Otterloop and other characters that live within Richard Thompson’s “Cul de Sac” comic strip series.
