Acquiring German production company plans feature film about the life of renown World War I chemist.
Online PR News – 13-June-2012 – LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Cinespire Entertainment, a California-based production company, has announced the sale of the movie rights to “Haber,” a 2008 critically-acclaimed short film about the life and work of renown chemist, Fritz Haber. A German production company has acquired the rights to the story, with plans to turn it into a feature film in the near future.
“We are pleased that this compelling story will be turned into a major feature and feel it’s now in very capable hands,” said Shannon Factor, founder of Cinespire and producer of the “Haber” short.
“Fritz Haber is a widely overlooked, but significant figure of the twentieth century and it’s important for his story to be further shared,” Factor added.
Known as the “father of chemical warfare,” Haber was a brilliant German chemist and Nobel Prize winner who has the distinction of leaving behind several notable legacies. His revolutionary process involving synthetic fertilizers averted one of the largest famines the world has ever known, but it was also the catalyst for creating a new era of chemical warfare.
“Haber” was first released in 2008, screening at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival and received multiple honors and awards. This includes winning “Best of Fest” at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, which qualified the film for an Academy Award nomination. The production budget was over $450,000, one of the highest ever for a short film.
As a full-length feature film, the planned biopic will allow a further exploration of the compelling life of Fritz Haber, as well as his relationship with wife Clara.
“There are so many layers to this story, a full-length feature was an inevitable next step,” said Shannon Factor. “We’re excited about the recent developments and look forward to following the film’s progress as it enters pre-production.”
