Sahyadri Hospital Bibwewadi conducts mock drill for fire safety

Sahyadri Hospital Bibwewadi, with the help of Pune Municipal Corporation (Fire brigade station-Bhavani Peth) recently conducted a mock-drill at their hospital to showcase its evacuation and relief plan in case of a fire situation.
This exercise was to create awareness for the staff on - How to handle the fire situation safely. The awareness programme was done under the guidance of fire officers Mr Prabhakar Umratkar & Mr Pramod Sonawane.
In the one and a half hour-long drill, hospital employees learnt firsthand skills on how to react to fire hazards. Firefighters demonstrated the use of fire escape ladders in rescuing a trapped person. A demonstration on the use of various types of fire extinguishers and other such equipment was also given. The mock practice was aimed at giving employees an exposure to deal with contingencies.
“Everybody knows about fire extinguishers but not many know about its usage. We provided information about different grades of fire and what to do in case a blaze breaks out to the staff at Sahyadri Hospital,” said Mr Prabhakar Umratkar, Station Duty Officer.
“Our staff is well aware to fight against the fire and well-equipped with the first-aid necessary,” said Mr Pramod A Patil, Safety Officer, Sahyadri Hospitals.
Quarterly training:
Sahyadri Hospital Bibwewadi, has also arranged internal quarterly training and awareness programmes for the staff, in which different techniques will be shown on how to rescue the patient, relatives and also to fight against the fire with safety devices. (For eg -Fire extinguisher, fire hydrant system)
Three different teams - Evacuation team, Fire team and Segregation team will train the hospital staff in each respect. Evacuating the place during fire, controlling the fire till the fire brigade comes, Take/shift the people to a safer area will be the for which staff will be trained.
