Local Arlington, VA, independent bookstore hosts a celebration and fundraiser to benefit Team Fox and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Online PR News – 06-June-2012 – Arlington, VA – One More Page Books, an independent, neighborhood-oriented bookstore, is honored to host a fundraiser celebration for Team Cul de Sac, part of Team Fox and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, on Sunday, June 10th, from 5-7 pm. This event is free and open to the public.
Chris Sparks, a professional web designer, founded Team Cul de Sac (TCDS) in honor of his close friend, cartoonist Richard Thompson, creator, illustrator and author of the popular comic strip "Cul de Sac," who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009. With Richard’s support, TCDS has asked cartoonists across the country to draw their own version of the Cul de Sac characters. The artwork has been compiled into a special collection called "Team Cul de Sac: Cartoonists Draw the Line at Parkinson's."
Among the hundreds of participating cartoonists are Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes, Garry Trudeau of Doonesbury), The Washington Post’s Nick Galifianakis, children’s author Mo Willems, Stephen Pastis of Pearls Before Swine, Pulitzer Prize political cartoonist Pat Oliphant, Sergio Aragones of MAD and Groo Vs. Conan, Patrick McDonnell of Mutts, Gene Weingarten and David Clark of Barney & Clyde, Mason Mastroianni of B.C., Roger Langridge of The Muppet Show, Marvel's Thor: The Mighty Avenger and Fred the Clown, Shannon Gallant of G.I. Joe, The Washington Post cartoonist Michael Cavna), Dave Kellet of Sheldon and Drive, Steven Artley of Artleytoons, Barbara Dale and Steve Conley of Astounding Space Thrills and Bloop.
Many of the contributors will be at One More Page’s event on June 10th for book signings. Wine, light snacks and door prizes will also be offered at the event. A portion of the day's proceeds will benefit Team Cul de Sac and Team Fox, the fundraising arm of the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF).
This event is sponsored in part by Small Press Expo (SPX), an organization promoting artists and publishers who produce independent comics. With each purchase, SPX will offer passes to its annual festival held September 15-16 in Bethesda, MD. More information about SPX can be found at www.spxpo.com.
"Team Cul de Sac: Cartoonists Draw the Line at Parkinson's" will be available for sale on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 and the original artwork will be auctioned through Heritage Auctions. All funds will benefit Team Fox and the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
