World War II veteran Cpl. Burt Richards will visit Oxbridge Academy of the Palm Beaches on Monday, June 4 to share the history of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American aviators to serve with the Army Air Force in World War II.

Burt Richards will visit Oxbridge Academy of the Palm Beaches on Monday, June 4 to share the history of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American aviators to serve with the Army Air Force in World War II. Students in the founding ninth and tenth grade classes will learn about the famed air unit that trained in Tuskegee, Alabama through a discussion and documentary featuring interviews with actual fighter pilots and heroes who fought.
Cpl. Richards, a veteran of the U.S. Army (1948-1956), served with the 105th Field Artillery Division. The founder of Veterans Speakers Forum, he has received numerous awards for educating the public about various veteran topics, including the American Red Cross Community Courage Award. He is currently spearheading a campaign to persuade the School District of Palm Beach County to close schools in observance of on Veterans Day.
For Oxbridge Academy, the presentation is the continuation of a series of first-hand accounts from speakers who lived through important historical eras. Previous speakers have been other war veterans and Holocaust survivors. These discussions support the school’s academic approach, which focuses on in-depth, project-based learning opportunities.
Oxbridge Academy is a new, independent college preparatory school that opened September, 2011 on the former site of the Jewish Community Center.
