High Profile Dignitaries at UPES 9th Convocation Governor Uttarakhand Chairman,IOCL gave away awards

Dehradun (31 May): At a glittering Convocation of University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun; the Governor Uttarakhand & Visitor to the University, H. E. Dr. Aziz Qureshi awarded medals to meritorious students of UPES.

Bidholi Via-Prem Nagar Dehradun – Dehradun (31 May): At a glittering Convocation of University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun; the Governor Uttarakhand & Visitor to the University, H. E. Dr. Aziz Qureshi awarded medals to meritorious students of UPES.

While presiding over the ceremony, H. E. Dr Aziz Qureshi said “It is the first University of India which dedicated itself to the long standing need of imparting Industry oriented education by offering domain specific & industry focused courses. It also has the distinction of being the first university in Uttarakhand to have a 100Kw Solar Power Plant and a Bio Diesel Generating plant on Campus.”

Appreciating the efforts of the University, H.E. Governor Uttarakhand Dr. Aziz Qureshi said “In the eight years of its existence, UPES has provided qualified, skilled manpower to the vital sectors of the Indian economy. …..This is proof of the quality of the education imparted here. The credit for this must go in equal measure to the dedicated faculty as to the hard work of the students.”

Dr. Aziz Qureshi further said “It gives me great satisfaction to know that as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, many projects have been undertaken by this University to help improve standards of living of the people in their neighborhood through providing various socio-economic services like the adoption of the State government schools, health camps and blood donation campaigns.” The Governor further said “The University and its three colleges of Management & Economics Studies, Engineering and Legal Studies, is emerging as a leader in the energy sector.”

This was followed by the speech of Guest of Honor for the Ceremony, India’s Maha Navratana and Fortune 500 Company IOCL’s Chairman Shri R S Butola. Shri Butola said “I must compliment the University of Petroleum and Energy studies to have created this large skills ecosystem and having laid a very balanced yet diversified, a skills map on the inclusive education of students in various areas of energy & transportation.”

The Guest of Honor, Mr Butola further said “UPES’s recent academic collaboration with IBM, its association on research and development with upstream and downstream companies in the Indian hydrocarbon sector is an indication of its strong commitment in the area of Research & Development especially in engineering and it is a welcome move as I said earlier.”

He also said “….this University goes to fill a long felt need of skilled manpower in the energy industry. …. the University believes in enriching and supplementing the students’ academic learning with extensive industry exposure and interaction with working professionals.”

In a stately procession held during the 9th Convocation at Energy Acres in UPES campus, the degrees were awarded to the students of UPES College of Engineering Studies. A total of 512 student graduates in various disciplines including B.Techs and M. Techs got degrees for completing their courses. Two “University Gold Medals” one each for the best Under Graduate and Post Graduate students of Engineering were awarded to Ketan Bajaj and Mukesh Chaudhary respectively. In addition 17 medals were awarded to meritorious students in different courses.

Under the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) PhD degrees were also awarded to the working professionals. 10 PhD degrees in Engineering/Science were awarded to working professionals and faculty & staff of UPES. Among the awardees included four employees from UPES Mr. Rishi Dewan, Ms Surbhi Semwal, Ms Kanachan Deoli Bakaukhandi and Mr Dharmendra Kumar Gupta who were also awarded PhD degrees.
