4,000 Gather at Fairhaven Memorial Park to Celebrate Memorial Day, Honor Service Men and Women

Festivities include WWII plane flyover, “America’s Wars” life-size photo essays, military honor guard and more

Online PR News – 04-June-2012 – Santa Ana, Calif. – Fairhaven Memorial Park hosted one of Orange County’s largest Memorial Day events on Monday, May 28, bringing together 4,000 people to honor the brave men and women who valiantly served our nation. This year’s event marked Fairhaven’s 20th Annual Memorial Day celebration and included a star-spangled day of festivities featuring a flyover, live music, patriotic tributes and inspiring military speakers.

“The sacrifices of America’s service men and women have afforded us the liberties we hold so dear today,” said Marla Noel, president of Fairhaven Memorial Park. “This annual event is an opportunity for us to gather together as proud Americans, celebrate our freedoms and pay respect to those who selflessly risked their lives to give us this opportunity.”

Attendees enjoyed a special performance by Jennifer Malman, winner of the “Star-Spangled Singer” contest, a competition hosted by Fairhaven via YouTube to seek out talented and patriotic vocalists. The event also featured “America’s Wars,” a series of life-sized photo essays capturing the heroism and spirit of the American soldier.

Additional activities included:
• Memorial Flights, an aerial flyover of WWII war planes
• A three-tiered performance of the National Anthem featuring an amalgamation of musical styles to illustrate “The Sounds of Liberty.”
• An antique cars display
• A Replica of Orange County’s Tustin Air Base Blimp Hanger
• A parade of the flags to the sounds of John Philips Sousa
• The military honor guard, 21 gun salute and the playing of TAPS

Major Aaron Schilleci, who served alongside his brother during the Iraq War, delivered one of the morning’s defining speeches, sharing his inspiring story of brotherhood, country and faith. Commander Paul Werring, United States Navy, also spoke at the event, and retired Chaplain George Fessler, United States Navy, gave the benediction and invocation.

Guests enjoyed complimentary hot dogs and refreshments throughout the day, and festivities concluded with the posting of colors.
