Festivities include WWII plane flyover, â€śAmericaâ€™s Warsâ€ť life-size photo essays, military honor guard and more
Online PR News – 04-June-2012 – Santa Ana, Calif. – Fairhaven Memorial Park hosted one of Orange Countyâ€™s largest Memorial Day events on Monday, May 28, bringing together 4,000 people to honor the brave men and women who valiantly served our nation. This yearâ€™s event marked Fairhavenâ€™s 20th Annual Memorial Day celebration and included a star-spangled day of festivities featuring a flyover, live music, patriotic tributes and inspiring military speakers.
â€śThe sacrifices of Americaâ€™s service men and women have afforded us the liberties we hold so dear today,â€ť said Marla Noel, president of Fairhaven Memorial Park. â€śThis annual event is an opportunity for us to gather together as proud Americans, celebrate our freedoms and pay respect to those who selflessly risked their lives to give us this opportunity.â€ť
Attendees enjoyed a special performance by Jennifer Malman, winner of the â€śStar-Spangled Singerâ€ť contest, a competition hosted by Fairhaven via YouTube to seek out talented and patriotic vocalists. The event also featured â€śAmericaâ€™s Wars,â€ť a series of life-sized photo essays capturing the heroism and spirit of the American soldier.

â€˘ Memorial Flights, an aerial flyover of WWII war planes
â€˘ A three-tiered performance of the National Anthem featuring an amalgamation of musical styles to illustrate â€śThe Sounds of Liberty.â€ť
â€˘ An antique cars display
â€˘ A Replica of Orange Countyâ€™s Tustin Air Base Blimp Hanger
â€˘ A parade of the flags to the sounds of John Philips Sousa
â€˘ The military honor guard, 21 gun salute and the playing of TAPS
Major Aaron Schilleci, who served alongside his brother during the Iraq War, delivered one of the morningâ€™s defining speeches, sharing his inspiring story of brotherhood, country and faith. Commander Paul Werring, United States Navy, also spoke at the event, and retired Chaplain George Fessler, United States Navy, gave the benediction and invocation.
Guests enjoyed complimentary hot dogs and refreshments throughout the day, and festivities concluded with the posting of colors.
