Online PR News – 25-May-2012 – MD – Baltimore, Maryland, May 23, 2012 -- First announced in March 2012, Baltimore Concert Opera received an anonymous $20,000 donation for use in a matching fundraising campaign to ensure the organization's ongoing sustainability. From March 23 until May 20, 2012, every dollar donated to the Baltimore Concert Opera qualified for a dollar-for-dollar match up to $20,000.00. The Baltimore Concert Opera not only matched, but exceeded the $20,000 fundraising goal.
When combined with the original anonymous donation, Baltimore Concert Opera raised more than $40,000 in less than two months. "To raise over $40,000 in such a short time is an amazing feat for any non-profit organization," said Ben Schuman, President of the Board of Directors. "But it is especially incredible for an arts organization, given the state of arts funding on both regional and national levels. Opera companies are struggling in these tough economic times and, in spite of this, we continue to thrive. We are especially humbled by the response that we received from our patrons."
After three years and fourteen productions at the Engineers Club, the Baltimore Concert Opera continues to operate in the black. The BCO ended its third full season with Puccini's Il Trittico, their biggest production yet, with more than a dozen solo artists and a full chorus. Baltimore Concert Opera continues to look for opportunities to improve and grow, to enhance the patrons' experience and introduce the operatic art form to a wider and newer audience. "We feel elated and incredibly honored that so many people find value in what we do." said Brendan Cooke, General Director. "As we continue to grow, this funding will enable BCO to reach new goals in the way of development, collaboration, and education.”
BCO closed their season on May 18 & May 20. Performances are held at The Engineers Club where they are artists in residence. For more information or to make a tax-deductible donation, please visit www.baltimoreconcertopera.com. BCO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
