This month's annual Old Island Days Arts Festival, taking place on February 27th and 28th, will take place on Whitehead Street and Caroline Street and feature art from all over the country in a quintessentially Key West historical setting
Online PR News – 21-February-2010 – – Known as the Florida Keys' cultural center, Key West Florida has plenty to offer its visitors in terms of history, culture, and art. This February, the 45th Annual Old Island Days Art Festival features artists from all over the country and Canada who come to the southernmost island of Key West to showcase their art to enthusiastic locals and tourists.
This year's even takes place on Whitehead Street from Green Street to Eaton Street and also partly on Caroline Street. This area of Key West is known as Old Town. Here, the streets are lined with historic properties (many built before or at the turn of the century) that have been converted into Key West hotels and Key West inns. Some of the best Key West inn properties in the area around the Arts Festival include the Key West Harbor Inn, the Garden House, Casa 325 and the Weatherstation Inn.
Also just footsteps from this year's Art Festival are such historic spots as the Audobon House, Truman's Little White House, and the Mel Fisher Museum. Just a few blocks down the road is the Key West Historic Bight Marina, where dozens of boats provide Key West snorkeling, sunset cruises, and much more.
Key West Historic Inns, the leading center for hotel Key West reservations, is currently taking reservations for guests during the festival weekend. Only a handful of rooms are left at a few of the Key West inn properties, so interested travelers are encouraged to call the center as soon as possible to check availability and reserve a room.
All of the Key West Historic Inns are located in downtown Key West. A Key West vacation in the downtown area allows guests to leave their car parked and walk everywhere of interest. Downtown Key West is small, only 12 blocks in one direction and about 8 blocks in the other. One of the island's major draws is just how pedestrian friendly the downtown is. Key West hotels in downtown also allow guests to experience Old Town Key West by staying in properties that are sometimes over 100 years old.
