Vedanta CEO M Siddiqi gets Global Recognition for Ethical Practice

Mr M Siddiqi, the CEO of Vedanta Aluminium Ltd, a flagship company of Vedanta Resource Plc has been selected as one of the most INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN BUSINESS ETHICS of 2009 by Ethisphere. Significantly Mr. Siddiqi is the only Indian who has been listed among the top hundred most influential people. Other significant names such as US president Barack Obama and Founder of Microsoft Bill Gates also figure in the same list.

But recently Mr M Siddiqi, the CEO of Vedanta Aluminium Ltd, a flagship company of Vedanta Resource Plc has been selected as one of the most INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN BUSINESS ETHICS of 2009 by Ethisphere. Significantly Mr. Siddiqi is the only Indian who has been listed among the top hundred most influential people. Other significant names such as US president Barack Obama and Founder of Microsoft Bill Gates also figure in the same list.

Mr Siddiqi has been nominated in the Business Leadership category for his outstanding visionary initiatives for the people of Orissa where Vedanta Aluminium has set up its Mining and Smelter projects. The company has already invested Rs 40 thousand cores for these projects and is planning to invest more in the long run. So far Vedanta has the single largest investment by any Corporate House in the state of Orissa.

The recognition has been made by Ethisphere, a leading international think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability, based in New York. The Institute’s associated membership group, the Ethisphere Council, is a forum for business ethics that includes over 200 leading corporations, universities and institutions. The Ethisphere Council is dedicated to the development and advancement of individuals on its membership council through increased efficiency, innovation, tools, mentoring advice, and unique career opportunities. Ethisphere Magazine, which publishes the globally recognized World’s Most Ethical Companies Ranking, is the quarterly publication of the Institute.

Mr Siddiqi dedicated this recognition to the people of Orissa, as he thanked the institute for recognizing the effort of Vedanta Aluminium in the state, “We are sincerely working for the development of the people at our plant sites both at Jharsuguda and Lanjigarh.” He said “We have miles to go in future and on our journey ahead we are determined to stand beside the people of Orissa”, he said in response to this international recognition. He also thanked the government of Orissa for their continuous and unstinted support to all the projects of Vedanta in Orissa .

According to the Institute, this award has been conferred to the selected individuals who had significant impact in the realm of business ethics over the course of the year. Although many listed here are deserving of a lifetime achievement award, this list recognizes those that have made a significant impact specifically during 2009.
