The Gastroenterology unit at KEM Hospital was started by the late Dr V R Pai back in 1980 and gastrointestinal endoscopies were performed for patient diagnosis and management. Presently a state of the art video-endoscopy unit has been set up with a patient friendly focus. Two parallel endoscopy rooms with facilities for anesthesia run simultaneously. Dedicated C Arm machine is used for X-ray guidance in therapeutic procedures.

Endoscopy has radically transformed diagnosis & treatment in the field of gastroenterology & surgery. New technology enables us to achieve treatment of intestinal disorders, many times even without use of anesthesia. In this era of minimal access therapies, gastrointestinal endoscopy has a vital role to play in healthcare.
