Online PR News – 26-February-2012 – – The Southern California Gas Company presented a $20,000 grant to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme recently as part of a 2011 Education Initiative. BGCOP will use the grant to support College Bound, an educational enhancement program intended to guide students through the process of reaching high school graduation and attending college.
“The Southern California Gas Company is proud to partner with and support organizations that have a positive impact in their communities, like the Boys and Girls Club,” said Michele Pettes, Southern California Gas Company’s Ventura County Public Affairs Manager.
We appreciate the generous support of The Gas Company, said Tim Blaylock, BGCOP Chief Professional Officer. “We are dedicated to ensuring that all of our community’s children and teens–especially those who need us most–have access to our Club’s programs and services to enhance their lives and positively shape their futures.”
The College Bound program is available for low-income, first generation college-goers, ages 13-18 years. Participants are case-managed and advised on earning their high school diplomas and being accepted into college; encouraging them through the academic, financial and testing requirements of their chosen school. Emphasis is placed on understanding and obtaining financial aid, grants and scholarships, and includes workshops specifically designed for parents.
