Customers are increasingly looking for datalogging solutions for their HVAC energy monitoring projects in conjunction with recording several parameters including temperature, humidity, energy usage, and more. Accommodating customers’ power metering needs, CAS DataLoggers has partnered with high-quality manufacturer T&D to introduce the T&D RTR-505P Wireless Pulse Datalogger. Measuring voltage signals from 0 to 27V with a pulse response, this logger features wireless capability and a large 16,000 reading storage capacity so users can keep logging for extended periods. The logger’s many applications include recording pulse output taken from flow meters and power meters to perform cost-effective power monitoring of HVAC systems installed in large commercial buildings and warehouses, factories, offices, and also for recording weather data such as rainfall and wind speed.
Capable of counting up to 61,439 pulses per reading, the RTR-505-P data logger measures voltage signals from 0 to 27V with a low of 0.5V or less, high of 2.5V or more, and a maximum pulse response of 3,500 pulses per second. Contact signals are also recordable. A clear LCD display shows current readings along with status, logging capacity, measurement range exceeded, and more, and the datalogger also offers options for wall mounts.
The RTR-505-P data logger is designed to record the changes in pulse count for contact signals (such as switches, relays, and thermostats) and Lo/Hi voltage signals that occur during a set recording interval. The device is also capable of recording the total pulse count from the start of recording. The RTR-505-P also allows for a variety of commercially available sensors to be connected to the included input module. This new flexibility has widened the range of possible applications without having to change Base Units. It’s easy to make adjustments to measurements for each RTR-500 Series Remote Unit by using the exclusive "Adjustment Tools" application.
T&D RTR-505-P wireless loggers are especially suitable for HVAC power metering, using their pulse output to conduct energy monitoring--every hour users can view the energy consumption for the previous hour logged. The RTR-505-P connects with a broad range of power meters to give 1 pulse per X number of watt hours, and users can scale this as they like. Then the datalogger’s software lets users convert the pulses back into energy, giving the result in kilowatt hours. Operators can also combine the RTR-505-P with other T&D models to measure additional parameters including the temperature in a duct, the humidity of the airstream coming out of an air handler, etc., giving customers a distributed datalogger system with the flexibility to handle several different applications.
It’s easy to instantly download data via wireless communication using an RTR-505-P Base Unit. The wireless communication range between a Remote Unit and a Base Unit is about 500 ft (150 meters), and this range can be extended by simply registering an RTR-500 as a Repeater. The datalogger’s large logging capacity of up to 16,000 readings means that users can record once per second and still log for a full four and a half hours of data; with a recording interval of once an hour, they can keep logging for 665 days. A Base Unit can download via wireless communication one RTR-505 Remote Unit at full logging capacity in about two minutes.
Utilizing a low energy consumption design, the data Logger uses a lithium battery with an estimated battery life of about 10 months at normal temperature if recorded data is downloaded once a day or if monitoring is carried out once every ten minutes. T&D “L” model loggers feature a large capacity battery pack so that under the same conditions they will continue for about four years without any need to change the battery.
Data can be collected remotely via USB and LAN. There are also a number of different data collectors, including the handheld TR-57DCi model for unmatched data accessibility, and for more remote data collection, the RTR-500GSM ranges out to a 100-meter radius. For users who have access to a network, the RTR-500NW/AW Network Base Stations can collect all the data themselves via Ethernet. Users can also designate one or more of the RTR-500 series data loggers as a Repeater to expand coverage.
