Trinity Heart Care of Dallas and Legacy Heart Care of Fort Worth are two of the nation’s few free standing EECP® Centers. As part of the Legacy Heart Care family, they are the second largest providers of EECP® in the U.S. Many of the best cardiologists in the Dallas-Fort Worth area refer their patients to the centers for the health benefits derived from this non-surgical therapy.
EECP® therapy is an FDA-cleared, Medicare-approved, non-invasive outpatient therapy for treating patients who are experiencing the symptoms of angina and heart failure. There are approximately 600 EECP® therapy centers in the United States.
EECP® is a non-surgical treatment option for individuals who experience symptoms from cardiovascular disease. Treatments help to increase the flow of blood to the heart. EECP is FDA approved, covered by Medicare and clinical studies have shown 85% of patients treated with EECP® experience a reduction in angina and are able to return to a more active lifestyle.
How EECP® Works
A person lies on a bed with a series of inflatable cuffs placed around his or her legs. The cuffs are attached to a computer which in turn is linked to electrodes that monitor the heartbeat. The cuffs are sequentially inflated & deflated between each heartbeat, driving blood into the heart during its resting phases. The increased oxygen supplied by the new blood flow provides additional nourishment to the heart muscle, thereby diminishing cardiac symptoms. There are several mechanisms of action believed to explain the extensive benefit from EECP®. One of the main results is collateral recruitment, or the widening and creation of small blood vessels in the heart muscle. These new vessels improve the flow of healthy, oxygenated blood to the heart. Amazingly these small “collateral” blood vessels will create natural bypasses around narrowed or blocked arteries. In short the heart has more nutrients and therefore more energy than before.
