Driven to improve oral health in patients, one New York dentist draws on his experience to reinvent the toothbrush, taking an innovative approach to fighting tooth decay and gum disease.
Online PR News – 20-January-2012 – – Dr. Jack Gruber, DDS of New York is announcing the launch of a new toothbrush designed to change the way his patients combat gum disease while keeping their teeth clean. The PeriClean is a gentle, brushless toothbrush for receding gums designed to address the problems associated with brushing with a normal toothbrush.
Dr. Gruber has been in the dental profession for over 35 years. During that period he, like many other dentists, had seen hundreds of patients suffering the same recurring dental problems. Motivated by a genuine concern for those patients, Dr. Gruber was determined to find the underlying cause.
"Young people have inadvertently been destroying healthy mouths for years because they have been taught a single, incorrect method for cleaning their teeth. Each year, 23.8 million people suffer from gum recession as a result of using toothbrushes; People of all ages are scrubbing away enamel, gums, and eventually the bones beneath their gums." Stated Dr. Gruber. "The gums are thin like paper, under that is bone that is as thin as an eggshell. When you know that much, you wouldn't want to go in there with something abrasive to clean it like a bristled toothbrush. It's like scrubbing your car with a wire brush."
It didn't take long for Dr. Gruber to realize that most patients are either not brushing enough or over-brushing. According to Dr. Gruber, the use of a toothbrush alone is harsh enough on the teeth but over-brushing leads to so many other long-term problems. Many of his patients would ask for alternatives to the toothbrush, and because no safe alternatives to the toothbrush existed, he felt it was time for some healthy competition.
To bring the PeriClean to life, Dr. Gruber teamed up with Edward Kozloski, an industrial designer with more than 30 years in product engineering. According to Ed Kozloski, the engineer behind the PeriClean brushless toothbrush, "The pad isn't a smooth surface. While it's soft, effectively eliminating the abrasion from a typical toothbrush, it has a slight degree of friction and variation to the surface design in order to remove foreign matter on the teeth and that initial plaque buildup we see every day"
The PeriClean brushless toothbrush is now available through the PeriClean website, and can be ordered by consumers as well as other dental professionals interested in providing their patients with a better, safer alternative to the toothbrush.
