PokerStars Sets Guinness World Record

35,000 Players Participate in the $10 Poker Tournament breaking a world record. Gambling Servers collapsed due to overload.

Online PR News – 09-February-2009 – – Thanks to Sunday's record-breaking no-limit hold'em contest, PokerStars is now home to the largest tournament in history. The tournament was PokerStars ultimate World Record Weekend promotion which drew in 35,000 participants who paid the $10+$1 buy-in to be a part of history. In addition to the cash prize, PokerStars was generous to offer a $150,000 overlay in gratitude to its loyal players.

Beating the record was never the problem as registration had been open for several weeks and all the seats were sold out way before the day of the event. The vast amount of incoming traffic spread itself throughout the entire poker site which hosted 250,540 poker players, occupying 33,582 poker tables which set a whole different record for the most poker players logged on at a time.

Many poker players were disappointed to be left out of this historic tournament, though it didn’t stop them from pouring into other online tournaments and cash prize games, which created a small delay in the site’s processing. Though, things were quickly restored to normal, leaving just a few bumps in the road on the server throughout the night.

Even though there were record breaking amounts of player, it didn’t take long for the tournament to end. After 3 poker playing hours, 80 players were eliminated, naturally rushing the game towards the final table.
