– Children’s Theatre Festival Will Be Held in Oulu This February 2012

Held from the 20th to 26th February 2012, the Oulu Children’s Theatre Festival is an international event, recognised as being one of the best of its kind.

Online PR News – 16-January-2012 – – The oldest theatre festival in Finland, the Oulu Children’s Theatre Festival is also one of the biggest of its type in the Europe. It has expanded from its early days when performances were held in gym halls with windows blacked out with black bags. It has now come under the wing of the Oulu City Theatre, which saved it from fading out of existence due to financial difficulties.

2012’s festival is themed ‘circus’, a form of entertainment in which Finland has seen interest being renewed in recent years. This year, the festival will be jam-packed with circus acts and clowns, as well as the usual shows for babies and philosophical plays directed at young adults. Over the course of the festival 24 different performances are to be held throughout Oulu.

Performers come from across the world to attend this festival, with artists from Spain, Estonia, Sweden and Hungary joining those from Finland.

This year, the opening performance is Muualla, a show directed by Ilona Jäntti, which combines dance, acrobatics and animation. The circus theme is explored in Herra Bartokin circus by Circo Aero, in clown shows presented by Dan Söderholm and Taina Iso-Mäki and in Oulun Tähtisirkus' Titaanit.

There are events to suit every age and interest at the theatre festival. Some of the complimentary events include art exhibitions, related, of course, to the circus, and live music. Young people can meet with the city’s politicians in the Kyselytunti event, while free lecturers for educators, social and health professionals and child carers are held throughout the week.

Those attending the festival will find many family-friendly Oulu hotels located close to the various venues.
