Launched in 2009, the annual Global Game Jam takes place during the last weekend in January, with teams in locations throughout the world working to create a complete game based on a specific set of themes. Judging the games based on a specialist list of criteria, competing teams are critiqued by a judging panel including games industry experts. Enjoying significant growth in participant numbers year on year, the Global Game Jam saw 69 competitions take place across 44 countries worldwide in 2011.
The Scottish Game Jam is hosted by Glasgow Caledonian University, which boasts a thriving games department offering a wide range of games centered courses including 3D Computer Animation, Computer Games Design and Computer Games Software Development.
Chairperson of the Scottish Game Jam 2012 organising team, Romana Khan, said:
