“People say to me all the time ‘Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up Don, shouldn’t I pull my house off the market and bring it back on after the Super Bowl?’ My response is why would you want to do what everybody else is doing?” Dowd continues. “The fact is there are still buyers out there. Companies still need to relocate people, even during the holidays. So there’s still people looking for homes, there’s just fewer of them, but along with that there are far fewer houses on the market for the prospective buyers to choose from. This makes the holiday season arguably one of the best times of the year to have your house up for sale.”
Dowd’s hard work during this traditionally slow time of year seems to be paying off. He says he’s been able to move several of his listings during the past couple winters.
“These past 2 years alone, in supposedly the worst real estate market in recent memory, I’ve had an increasing amount of closings in January and February from homes that were on the market and sold during the holiday months. Had my clients taken these homes off the market like most other people do, they may have missed out on their chance to get their houses sold and move on with their lives.”
While most other real estate agents are taking it easy for the holidays, Dowd’s marketing campaigns remain in full gear and he expects his sales numbers for the 2011-2012 winter months to meet or surpass those of previous years.
