Actian and Numsight Sign Strategic Partnership

The Actian and Numsight Partnership marks the launch of bundled solution for analyzing large databases at a lower cost.

Online PR News – 14-December-2011 – – REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — December 14, 2011 – Actian Corporation (formerly Ingres Corp.), today announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with Numsight, a French computer software and systems consultancy which provides hosted marketing database solutions to support data analytics in the retail sector. Covering technology solutions and marketing efforts, the agreement marks both companies’ commitment to provide customers with data analytics at the speed of thought.

Numsight is a marketing provider of consulting, services and solutions in the field of customer knowledge management and targeted marketing. Numsight’s customers are predominantly large consumer retail organisations. Numsight Information Services, the French IT division that provides databases hosting services and marketing software solutions, has to handle huge volumes of customer data, amounting to billions of lines and terabytes of space. Its major solutions are Retail BI (promotion and product performance analytics) and Datasharing platform (a web-based interface which bundles reporting and software for survey analytics, enabling retail professionals to share database analysis results). Leveraging their respective technologies and experience, Actian and Numsight will enable customers to innovate using Actian’s Vectorwise analytic database whilst bringing down the costs of their projects.

Having decided to terminate the agreement with its previous partner, Numsight Information Services identified the competing solutions in the analytics software market and carried out performance testing as well as price comparison. Vectorwise soon emerged as the superior solution for use with Numsight’s analytics software. When testing it on a virtual machine, using just one eighth of the processing power Vectorwise achieved equivalent performance to competing solutions. Vectorwise also proved to be the most cost-efficient solution compared to its rivals.

“The huge amount of data accumulated by our customers on a daily basis demands a powerful, high-speed analytical database engine. The market for this type of solution is extremely limited, and prices are very high. Vectorwise database technology features vector-based processing, delivering astounding performance at an extremely competitive price. Actian also convinced us by the quality of support, and responsiveness and efficiency of its teams, who did everything to ensure the job of combining our solution with Vectorwise was completed without a hitch,” explained Laurent Descamps, head of Numsight Information Services.

“Usually, the upfront cost of deploying an analytical database is so high that some reporting and analytics projects never even see the light of the day, simply because they cannot deliver an acceptable return on investment. By offering markedly better performance than competing solutions using equivalent resources, Vectorwise clearly stands out as the most cost-efficient analytic database. The overall cost of the solution is lower, leading to much higher margins for partners,” added Christian Raza, Head of Sales France for Actian Vectorwise.
