Guyson Introduces Robotic Blast Automation at the Advanced Engineering Show

Leading European finishing equipment manufacturer Guyson International showcased their robotically controlled blasting technology at the Advanced Engineering UK 2011 group of events, held at the NEC in Birmingham on the 9th and 10th November 2011.

Online PR News – 10-December-2011 – – Leading European finishing equipment manufacturer Guyson International showcased their robotically controlled blasting technology at the Advanced Engineering UK 2011 group of events, held at the NEC in Birmingham on the 9th and 10th November 2011. On the stand Guyson conveyed the benefits that robotic blasting can bring to precision engineering applications such as aero and land based turbine blade grit blasting and shot peening, for OEM’s and maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) companies.

Guyson demonstrated how adoption of these sophisticated new precision robotic blasting techniques can deliver investment cost savings over traditional multiple blast gun systems, which are often much larger and more complicated to validate and continuously maintain. Fully automated robotic precision blast systems are proven to deliver real daily running cost savings in compressed air consumption. This is achieved by using far fewer blast guns than the traditional blanket coverage approach with lots of guns. Additional on going cost benefits from robotic blasting include greatly reduced blast media costs through less media breakdown and lower wastage, furthermore, it allows a smaller and cheaper dust collector to be specified, also with reduced waste disposal issues. Introduction of this type of precise robot blasting can also eliminate completely operator Health & Safety issues relating to both RSI and vibration white finger problems.

Richard Standing, Guyson’s Business Development Manager, stated “Our aim is demonstrate to potential clients the full benefits of moving their finishing production to the top of the ‘automation ladder’ with a fully automated precision robotic blast system. Guyson sees this move as vital for aero and land based turbine manufacturers and MRO centres to be able to deliver the required consistency of finish from the blast process, whilst meeting stringent quality standards. It will also assist other high volume manufacturers to be better able to compete against low cost labour economies.

Guyson are recommending full adoption of this type of precision robotic blasting for clients who manufacture precision components with demanding surface engineering topography requirements and/or any subsequent validation issues, typically medical implants and aerospace turbine blades.

Guyson are currently upgrading its advanced robotic capabilities at their Skipton demonstration and engineering centre to assist its customers with their process evaluation and precision blast simulation. With this fully integrated working robotic cell incorporated into the demonstration area of the factory, Guyson will be able to further demonstrate advanced blast nozzle manipulation techniques and the cost saving and efficiency benefits its automated blast customers will achieve.

Prospective user of Guyson automated blast systems are encouraged to submit sample components for free feasibility testing to the company’s extensive development workshop at Skipton, England.
