Local bank celebrates Illinois soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan through its Adopt-a-Soldier Program
Online PR News – 07-December-2011 – – Marquette Bank, a locally-owned neighborhood bank, recently completed its 5th Annual Adopt-a-Soldier Program, in which the Bank sends care packages to troops stationed overseas during the holiday season. Throughout September and October, the Bank collected donations from customers, employees and neighbors to be included in the care packages. More than 65 large care packages were assembled and shipped to Illinois soldiers overseas whose names were submitted by customers, neighbors and employees of the Bank.
“Our Adopt-a-Soldier Program is our way of showing support for the troops and brightening up their holidays,” said Georgeanne Kruger, Assistant Vice President. “We thought it was especially important that care packages be sent to Illinois soldiers stationed in Afghanistan since they will likely not be coming home this December.”
Packages were prepared by Marquette Bank employees and included snacks, personal hygiene products, DVDs, games and other items not readily available in combat zones. Items were donated by customers, neighbors and employees and collected at all 24 Marquette Bank locations. Each care package contained a handmade holiday wreath made and donated by Tinley Park resident, Nancy Hall.
The care packages also included hand written cards from local students. Principal Westerlund from Serena Hills Elementary School in Chicago Heights and Mrs. Adamski from Eberhart Elementary School in Chicago asked their students to write the cards, thanking the soldiers for their sacrifice and wishing them a happy holiday. Extra items collected that were not included in the care packages were donated to Operation Support Our Troops – America, a local nonprofit who also sends comfort packages to U.S. soldiers.
The Annual Marquette Bank Adopt-a-Soldier Program is an employee-driven effort that is part of Marquette Banks’s Neighborhood Commitment, where each quarter the Bank focuses on a different area of need – shelter, hunger, education and health/wellness.
