The East Side Access transportation project, which is scheduled for completion in 2011, will dramatically improve Long Island corridor commuter access to Manhattan's East side, including Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Suffolk and Nassau counties.
Through the innovative use of an existing tunnel on the lower level of 63rd Street beneath the East River, GCS is engineering a new Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) connection at Grand Central Terminal. By effectively creating a "terminal within a terminal," once complete the Manhattan East Side Access Project will enable new connections to LIRR's Port Washington branch and main line, as well as a new rail station connection in Sunnyside Yard in Queens.
