Dr. Laura Bertone, author of The Hidden Side of Babel, has been appointed an honorary member of the Argentine Association of Conference Interpreters (ADICA) in appreciation for her work as a teacher and practitioner of simultaneous interpreting.
Online PR News – 20-January-2010 – – Dr. Laura Bertone has been appointed an honorary member of the Argentine Association of Conference Interpreters (ADICA) in appreciation for her work as a teacher and practitioner of simultaneous interpreting. The presentation took place at ADICA’s first Open Meeting for Young Interpreters, where Bertone acted as moderator of the round table.
Bertone is known internationally as the author of The Hidden Side of Babel: Unveiling Cognition, Intelligence and Sense, her award-winning text on language and interpreting. She regularly conducts training and seminars on translating and interpreting, focusing on the issues of language, culture and communications. In 2009, she presented workshops at universities in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Shanghai, and lectured in the Masters' Program of Translation and Interpreting, Faculty of Law, University of Buenos Aires. The Hidden Side of Babel received the inaugural SI Hayakawa Book Prize, awarded by the Institute of General Semantics in New York City.
ADICA, the Argentine Association of Conference Interpreters, was founded on October 2, 1979. Its key objective is to represent simultaneous and consecutive professional interpreters in Argentina, to extend the improvement and meaning of their activities and to benefit from an association which defends its members' interests and underscores the profession's prestige.
