ST. CATHERINE’S ACADEMY RETURNS FROM ANNUAL LEADERSHIP CAMP

St. Catherine’s Academy, a military boarding school in southern California, held its fifth annual
Leadership Camp at Camp San Luis Obispo, California National Guard Base.

Online PR News – 11-October-2011 – – ANAHEIM, Calif., (October 10, 2011) – Seventy-three young leaders returned to Anaheim today after a
one-week camp focused on teamwork and leadership.

St. Catherine’s Academy, a military boarding school in southern California, held its fifth annual
Leadership Camp at Camp San Luis Obispo, California National Guard Base from August 12 – August
18. During the camp, students participated in a variety of activities, including obstacle courses, land
navigation training, and leadership reaction exercises. Students were also engaged in presentations and
discussions about leadership throughout the week.

“Leadership Camp immerses campers in a total leadership learning environment,” said Colonel Barry
Bizzell (USMC, Retired), who designed the Leadership Camp program and serves as commandant of
the military school for boys. “We teach young men the fundamentals of leadership, discipline, and
teamwork.”

Approximately 73 campers attended Leadership Camp, including cadets from St. Catherine’s and many
non-students from as far away as Florida and Mexico. The annual camp is open to boys age 10 – 16.
Sisters and teachers from St. Catherine’s Academy were also involved in the camp. They drove to the
camp on Saturday evening to celebrate Mass with the campers.

The only military school for boys in California serving grades kindergarten – eight, St. Catherine’s
Academy is an independent Catholic school with a military tradition for boys in kindergarten through 8th
grade. The school is owned and operated by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose and offers both
day and boarding opportunities.
