– New course records expected at this year’s Florence Marathon
10/10/2011 highlights that the Florence Marathon has this year changed the running route so that it now covers more even terrain and spectators can hopefully see some new record times in the event.

Online PR News – 10-October-2011 – – The Florence Marathon will be taking place on 27th November 2011 and the most significant change to this new course is the position of the starting line. Previously runners started from Piazzale Michelangelo, with a downhill section which would make it difficult to get into an early rhythm due to having to change from steep to flat sections.

The new starting position will be on even ground and there will be less bottle necks in the early stages enabling the faster runners to get away quicker. With the recreation of a completely flat course organisers are hoping the changes will enable runners to create their own personal bests.

The entire course will be the official marathon distance of just over 42 kilometres and the route will also take runners past the city’s key landmarks including the Domo, the River Arno, Ponte Vecchio and the finish at Santa Croce. The event is Italy’s second most attended marathon, just behind Rome and this year well over 10,000 participants are expected.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at commented: “The number of runners involved is going to cause complications for people needing Florence City Centre hotels as there is likely to be a lack of rooms. Everyone taking part should be sure to book early.”
