DirectRooms.com reveals that children are in for a special surprise this November as St. Nicholas arrives in Amsterdam to mark the start of the Christmas holiday season.
Online PR News – 05-October-2011 – – Sinterklaas in Amsterdam will see the patron saint of children arriving in the Dutch capital by boat before heading off on a grand parade through the city.
The appearance of Sinterklaas is the city’s most important event during the festive season and is surrounded with excitement as children know that it’s only a few weeks before he’s off delivering his presents.
The parade starts at 11:00 on 14th November 2011 and Sinterklaas will first appear by steamboat as he makes his way up the Amstel River. By about 12 o’clock the boat arrives at the Maritime Museum and it’s here that Santa will get off and meet with the city’s mayor before mounting his beautiful white horse, Amerigo.
Crowds can catch a glimpse of Sinterklaas as he continues the parade through Amsterdam and at 13:00 he’s scheduled to arrive at Dam Square. While here children and families can get the chance to grab some of the delicious cookies and candy distributed by Santa’s helpers the Zwarte Pieten or ‘Black Peters’; so called as they’re covered in black soot from climbing through all the chimneys.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “The arrival of Sinterklass is so popular it’s even broadcast live on television so people can expect almost every hotel Amsterdam City Centre has to be much busier than usual.”
