Online PR News – 02-October-2011 – – LATHRUP VILLAGE, Mich. – Michigan First Credit Union (www.MichiganFirst.com) is helping communities, students and charitable organizations across metropolitan Detroit by providing financial contributions, free services, sponsorships and scholarships. So far this year, Michigan First has contributed more than $74,000 to support local organizations and provided $60,000 in graduate scholarships.
Understanding the financial burden that comes with a college education, the credit union designed a scholarship program that awards a $1,000 scholarship to one graduating high school senior from each eligible school within Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties. This year, Michigan First awarded scholarships to 60 graduates. It has provided more than $560,000 graduate scholarships since 2003 when the scholarship program was created.
“Michigan First is focused on providing ongoing educational opportunities and support to those who live and work in our communities,” said Michael Poulos, president and CEO of Michigan First Credit Union. “We are fortunate to be strong, stable and in a place where we can help others. We are proud to lend a helping hand to the many outstanding individuals and organizations that make southeast Michigan a great place for families and businesses to live and grow.”
Annually, Michigan First donates more than $80,000 to charitable and community resources, with contributions this year already exceeding $74,000. In addition, the credit union makes its community room within the Lathrup Village headquarters available at no cost for school districts, community groups and professional organizations. Each year, more than 7,000 community members use this free meeting space.
In addition to its financial contributions to the community, Michigan First also provides free financial literacy seminars for residents throughout the year at its Lathrup Village headquarters. Upcoming seminars include:
