Online PR News – 20-September-2011 – New York NY – If vending machines are a sign of the times, most of them are not painting a pretty picture: many machines, even in public areas meant to encourage healthful living, vend only junk food, are an eyesore, and feature technology belonging to prehistoric times. With our political and medical leaders placing so much emphasis on the unhealthy state of the nation and the disparity in access to convenient healthful foods as being a contributing factor to this problem, it is clear that vending machines should represent a positive sign of the future.

Fortunately, Nassau County residents and health enthusiasts, Ralph Cleophat and Tony Manzolillo – collectively known as Berton Vending Solutions – have partnered with HUMAN Healthy Vending to ensure that residents in their community have convenient access to foods and drinks that meet a high caliber of nutritional standards, including the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Locations that partner with Berton Vending Solutions and HUMAN will join a successful network of more than 750 machine locations across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. New York alone has nearly 20 machine placements, including recent placements within the Orchard Park School District by husband and wife team, NFL player Jon Corto and his wife, Jen.

Unlike antiquated vending machines that have long been complicit in encouraging unhealthful eating habits, HUMAN’s vending machines are the first full-service vending solution offering only healthful snacks, drinks and entire meals along with health education streamed digitally via LCD screens attached to the machines. The LCD screens can educate consumers on the products in the machine as well as give general nutrition advice, such as how to read a nutrition label.

Both Cleophat and Manzolillo have deep roots in Nassau County: Cleophat holds a BE from The University at Stony Brook and an MBA from Hofstra University, while Manzolillo graduated from Garden City High School and also holds a BS from Arizona State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. They have spent much of their lives teaching their community how to live actively: Cleophat holds a third degree black belt in martial arts and has trained many of his community’s children and adults in the Art; and Manzolillo is a former personal trainer. Both want to see their community thriving and reaping the benefits of a healthful lifestyle. “We grew up here, went to school here and have worked with our community for years at a health-related capacity,” said Manzolillo. “Providing HUMAN Healthy Vending to our schools really allows us to instill healthful living in the next generation.”
